In Hebrews 11, the Bible uses the words "by faith" a lot - around 20 times! The writer gives example after example to show what living by faith looks like.
So what does living by faith look like? It looks like believing God's promises and trusting that He will do what He says. When people live this way, they please God (Heb 11:6).
That's how people like Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham and Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, and Rahab lived. They trusted God and followed Him, even when life was hard or confusing.
Living by faith also means believing that God will protect us from or help us through hard times. That's what happened with Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and many other men and women whose names we don't even know. They trusted God no matter what.
All these people - from long ago - show us that God's people are connected across history. They also show that God's people are different from the world, both now and forever.
And here's something vital: Faith comes from God, and we live it out as Jesus works in our hearts.
So now the big question is: What does your faith look like? Be encouraged by this huge group of people who trusted God (Hebrews 12:1). And may you be sure of God's love and promises through faith in Jesus Christ.
