Notes

(See Saturday for authors.)

What does it mean to follow Jesus? Some might think it is a simple matter—read a bit of the Bible, keep some of the commands of Jesus, go to church sometimes, and live a happy life.

Jesus suggests it is far more than that. As Ryle notes, Jesus requires that we every day … crucify the flesh, … overcome the world, and … resist the devil … fight a daily battle, and war a daily warfare.

For many, that is just too much. Many in Jesus’s lifetime turned away when they found it too difficult (John 6:66). Many in our lifetime turn away when they find it too difficult.

But turning away from Jesus gives up your very self—your soul. It’s not worth it. Even if you had everything you think you could ever want in this life, your eternity is torment and God’s just punishment for every sin.

On the other hand, if you give up control over your life and follow Jesus, completely and whole heartedly, you will be satisfied in this life and your eternity will be happy beyond your wildest imaginations. So, follow Jesus. Listen to Him, God’s Chosen One. Follow Him now.
