Notes
(See Saturday for authors.)
The book of Hebrews reminds us again and again that Jesus offered the perfect sacrifice for our sins once and for all. Then, in its final chapter, it calls believers to respond by offering their own sacrifices to God (Heb 13:15-19). In a similar way, Paul explains in Romans that we receive God's righteousness only through faith in Jesus. Then, beginning in Romans 12, he shows us how to live out that righteousness in our daily lives.
Because Jesus sacrificed Himself for us, we are called to give ourselves to God as an ongoing living sacrifice. Jesus's once-for-all sacrifice not only motivates us to live for Him but also gives us the power to do so. When we remember the amazing sacrifice Jesus made to save us, our sacrificial response makes sense.
Living for God often means saying no to the ways of the world. The world tries to shape us to think, act, and live like everyone else. But God's mercy works in us to change our hearts and minds.
As God transforms the way we think, we begin to see things from His perspective. We learn what pleases Him and are better able to follow His good, perfect, and loving will.
