Notes
(See Saturday for authors.)
Some truths change how we act in big ways. Because I know how gravity works, you won't find me walking off the top of a five-story building. Does the truth about Jesus change us?
One thing we believe if we believe that Jesus is the Christ, is that He is a king. In fact, He is not just a king, but the greatest king. If you believe that Jesus is the greatest king, then you will take what He says, not as suggestions, but as orders to follow. I can learn what you believe by how seriously you take Jesus’s commands.
What is Jesus’s central command to his people? In both our readings we see His command is that we love one another. In John 13 Jesus took the place of a slave and served His disciples. He was illustrating the pattern of love. When we love one another, we don’t pay attention to what we deserve but focus on our opportunities to serve others. This pattern marks Christians. Tomorrow we will think about why it marks Christians.
