Notes

(See Saturday for authors.)

Jesus told us in Luke 9 to hear His words and do them. Do you remember the sermon from yesterday? Should you remember? How can you do the Word if you don’t remember it? The Westminster Larger Catechism, asks: What is required of those who hear the word preached?

Answer: It is required of those who hear the word preached that they attend on it with diligence, preparation and prayer; examine by the Scriptures what they hear; receive the truth with faith, love, meekness and readiness of mind as the word of God; meditate on and discuss it; hide it in their hearts, and bring forth its fruit in their lives. Bringing forth the fruit of it is “doing it.”

These people from Berea were eager to receive the Word preached. And when they heard it, they dug into the Bible each day to confirm these things. One reason to have daily family worship is to dig into the Bible and consider how these things should be making a difference in our daily lives.
