Notes
(See below for all authors.)
How do we make progress in the Christian life? We find in these verses both equipment and an equipper.
The equipment needed to do God's will is the God of peace—and the risen-from-the-dead Lord Jesus who is the Great Shepherd of we sheep. We need His blood—blood of His eternal covenant. And we need Him working good in us.
And we dare not think that having been given this equipment we equip ourselves. No! God is the equipper—the one who equips us with all we need for doing His will.
Since God does this through Jesus Christ, He gets the glory, not us. But we get the benefit of this equipping. We do what is pleasing to God. We are obedient. We work out our salvation because God is working in us (Phil 2:12-13).
So, like these Hebrews Christians, let us pay attention to this brief instruction. Let us exalt Jesus—together, helping each other until that day when we see Him face to face. God's grace will help us.
