People who have used the Topical Memory System by The Navigators Christian ministry may well know Hebrews 9:27 in the Proclaim Christ topic and the Sin’s Penalty subtopic. This verse clearly does show us the penalty of sin—death and judgment for everyone. But this bad news is given in the context of good news.

Just as death and judgment are certain, so also we can be certain that Christ offered salvation to many and will come again to bring the completion of that salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for Him. Yes, we are going to die. Yes, we deserve judgment. But Christ died for many and will return for all of us who believe.

Gooding puts it this way: The marvellous news is that in view of that one judgment covering the whole of a person’s life, Christ’s one sacrifice offered once and for all, has for the believer already paid the penalty of each and every sin that could possibly be raised at that judgment.

Death is certain. Judgment is certain. But for all for whom Christ died—known by repentance and faith—He took our judgment and will take us to heaven to be with Him forever.
