Listen up, little ones
Especially for the littles in your household.
Listen for the words sow or scatter seeds.
Reading
Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23—The Parable of the Soils
Keys for kids
Also for the littles. Young households might choose, after Keys for Kids, to go directly to praise and prayer.
- God sows the seed of the Word whenever we hear the Bible read or preached.
- Our hearts must be ready to receive God's word!
- The seed that falls on good soil bears fruit.
Questions
(Some read the ?s before the notes/ ask them after.)
- Which of the four soils refer to unbelievers? Which refer to believers?
- How does the expression, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear" relate to the parable of the soils?
- What are types of fruits of the word of God in our life? Who do you know who demonstrates these fruits?
Notes
(See below for all authors.)
The same seed yields different results based on the soil of our heart. Perhaps you have seen this in your own life, where you have seen children growing up in the same church, or even the same family, but having very different trajectories. Why is that, when they each heard the Gospel and were raised in a Christian home? Jesus's parable explains it just about as well as anyone could.
Jesus also summarizes the primary dangers that we face in this world: hard-heartedness, a shallow unwillingness to suffer, and worldliness. We ought to examine our hearts and be on guard against these dangers!
