Notes
(See below for all authors.)
Paul was determined to preach Christ crucified. I too must continue to proclaim that believing in Jesus crucified for you is essential to be saved, and to reject Jesus crucified is to perish. This message is for the world—and this message is for the church.
We must remember that. Otherwise, we might be inclined to change the message. To offer a different message that would be easier to accept. Over the course of Church history such attempts have been made. But to change the message is to deny Jesus and to quit being His church.
So, I keep preaching the same message, and we keep believing the same message, and we pray for the power of God to overpower the foolishness of worldly wisdom and call sinners to believe this good news and turn from their sin to Jesus as Saviour. Of course, God can do that. He did it for us. He is doing it every day for others.
Believing this message of Christ crucified not only saves us, but it continues to work in us. Humbling us. Sanctifying us. Reminding us that our righteousness is in Jesus alone. Pushing us, like Paul, to know nothing except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
