Notes
(See Saturday for authors.)
Consider Jesus. So our chapter opens. Who is supposed to consider Jesus? Holy saints who share a heavenly calling. God has made us holy in Jesus, granting us a righteousness that is not natural to us. This holiness is part of our heavenly calling. But the not yet is far greater than the already. That is, we are holy now in Christ and called to be holy in actions now. But one day, we will be made completely holy—sprit, soul, and body (1 Thess 5:23).
And why consider Jesus? Because He is the apostle and high priest of our confession. He was sent by God to save us—and He did just that, at the cost of His life. And, as we saw in Heb 2:17, He is our high priest. That is whom we confess—Jesus is Lord (Rom 10:9)
Further, Jesus is worthy of glory and is faithful. Perfectly faithful. At my friend and mentor Jerry O’Neill’s memorial service, the congregation was asked what one word they would use to identify Jerry. I wrote on my bulletin the word faithful. That word was the one mentioned by the preacher. I’m sure that was the word many in the assembly would have picked. Jerry would have been the first to note that any faithfulness in him came from his faithful Savior. And his faithful Savior did indeed grow in Jerry the fruit of the Spirit of faithfulness. Likewise, Jesus grows faithfulness in us. So, we keep holding on to Jesus.
