Especially for the littles in your household.

Listen for the words God and Law.

Psalm 19—The Work and the Word of God

Keys for kids

Also for the littles. Young households might choose, after Keys for Kids, to go directly to praise and prayer.

Questions

(Some read the ?s before the notes/ ask them after.)
  1. How does the creation speak of God?
  2. How does the Law of God work in us for good?
  3. How do we see Jesus in Psalm 19?

Notes

(See Saturday for authors. Today's notes are from a commentary on the Psalms by Christopher Ash)

Christ is the shining light over creation, the one in whom all things hold together (Col. 1:17), upholding the universe by his word of power (Heb. 1:3), the eternal Word who makes the Father known (John 1:18). Christ is the beautiful fulfillment of the law of God (cf. Rom. 10:4). In Christ there is perfect harmony between the created order and the moral order of the Scriptures. In Psalm 19 meditation on the dazzling beauty of Christ above creation and of Christ in the law moves the believer to humble prayer.

The connection between the law and Christ is more straightforward, for the majestic perfections of the law, sung so beautifully in 19:7–9, are embodied in the kingly perfections of Christ, who is the fulfillment of the law in every way. He is so because, as eternal Son of God, he is the agent of creation, through whom was made the created order, whose moral stability is so flawlessly expressed in the Scriptures.16 He is so because, as incarnate man, he lived a sinless life, embodying to perfection the humble piety with which the psalm closes.
