How is the word made effectual to salvation?

The Spirit of God maketh the reading, but especially the preaching of the word, an effectual means of convincing and converting sinners, and of building them up in holiness and comfort, through faith, unto salvation.

Nehemiah 8:8; 1 Corinthians 14:24-25; Acts 26:18; Psalms 19:8; Acts 20:32; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Romans 10:13-17; Romans 1:16

Notes

(See Saturday for authors.)

Ezekiel was born during Josiah’s reign. Josiah was the last good king in Judah. In fact, he is one of three kings referenced as loving God. Do you know the other two? (David and Hezekiah)

Ezekiel was likely born within a year of the time Josiah found the book of the law and began reforms in Judah (see 2 Kings 22 and earlier in 23).

God came to Ezekiel and called him to be a prophet to the exiles in Babylon in the fifth year of the exile of Jehoiachin (Ezekiel 1:2).
