Friday’s here. Jump and cheer. Shabbat is coming. … Hurray! Shab-bat is here! So begins the children’s board book, Shabbat is Coming! Do we have that attitude about Sunday, the Lord’s Day? It’s Thursday, Sunday’s coming! It’s Friday, Sunday’s coming soon! It’s Saturday, Sunday is tomorrow! Hurray, it’s the Lord’s Day! Sunday is here!
In our reading, the Holy Spirit, through Isaiah the prophet, calls us to delight in the Lord’s Sabbath, something that Hebrews 4:9 tells us remains for God’s people.
Chantry points out three blessings God promises here. The first blessing promised is joy in the Lord. Chantry notes how familiarity enhances joy in human relationships as well as in our relationship with the Lord, as in our common expression to know you is to love you. The second blessing promised is victory. Believers, Chantry states, ought to have a sense of triumph over sin, death, hell, the devil, the world and the flesh. The third blessing is feasting upon good things.
Considering these promised blessings, Chantry notes that our hearts should look forward to the Sabbath as a favorite day, the most wonderful of days. Worship Connected seeks to help you view the Lord’s Day as a wonderful day as you look back remembering on Monday through Wednesday and look forward in anticipation on Thursday through Saturday. Call the Lord’s Day a delight!
