Notes
(See Saturday for authors.)
Habakkuk is talking with God. He's confused. He basically says, Wait, God... did I hear You right? You're going to use Babylon, a really wicked nation, to punish Your own people? How can You do that? How can You watch them do evil and still use them?
Even while he complains, Habakkuk still talks to God as his God - his LORD, his Rock. He knows he belongs to God. He trusts God, even when he doesn't understand. Currid reminds us that Habakkuk is a true believer in covenant with the Lord.
After saying his complaint, Habakkuk waits for God's answer. He stands ready, almost like a guard on a wall, watching and listening. And God answers - but not in a way that solves every question. God's answer might not make our brains happy, but it makes our hearts strong: The righteous shall live by his faith.
People who follow God have always needed to live by faith, and they always will. People who do evil will be punished. Judah would be punished by Babylon, but Babylon would also be punished later. God is fair.
The One who will bring final judgment will come. We can hope for that and pray for that (Rev 22:20). While we wait, we keep going because Jesus will come back and He will fix everything. So we live by faith. We were made right with God by faith, and now we keep living by faith.
