  2. What are the different parts of the armor?
  3. Are you standing firm?

Notes

(See Saturday for authors. Today’s notes are from a commentary on Ephesians by Tony Merida.)

After telling us to put on the armor, Paul now describes it. The first thing to recognize is the armor is “of God” (v. 13). … The same armor the Messiah wears in battle is also our battle gear. There is no reason to yield one inch to Satan if we have put on the full armor of God. Nevertheless, we must be ready and equipped. We don’t wear swimsuits or pajamas; we wear battle gear. …

As we buckle on this piece of the Messiah’s armor [the belt of truth], we live in His truth and speak His truth, displaying the characteristics of our victorious King. …

Put on the breastplate of righteousness so you do not give an inch to Satan in the areas of impurity, lust, greed, or injustice. [Live out] who you are in Christ… in righteous living. …

[With gospel shoes] Paul is basically saying believers should always be ready to share the gospel. Be ready to herald the good news of Christ (cf. Isa 52:7). …

We have a shield to protect us from the darts of the enemy when we put on Christ, believing the promises of God. …

[With the helmet of salvation] God’s people are to put on the hope they have in Christ. To resist the Devil, we must be assured of our salvation.

The final piece of equipment is an offensive weapon. The believer must take up the sword [of the Spirit—the word of God] and engage the enemy.
