WSC #90
How is the Word to be read and heard, that it may become effectual to salvation?
That the Word may become effectual to salvation, we must attend thereunto with diligence, preparation, and prayer; receive it with faith and love, lay it up in our hearts, and practice it in our lives.
Notes
(See Saturday for authors.)
This vision of God which Ezekiel experienced was not only something he saw, but something he heard and even likely felt (the stormy wind). These living creatures (cherubim/angels; see Ezekiel 10) are the army of God, and they are mighty, frightening, and doing the exact thing God tells them to do. We also see a glimpse of the pre-incarnate Son of God, Christ (v26).
Ezekiel is so overwhelmed and fearful, that when he sees it, this likeness of the glory of the Lord, he falls on his face (But God tells him to get up and helps him up—2:1-2).
God is showing all this to Ezekiel to help him, and to use him to help the people, and to remind them that He is KING, and He is in control, and He is with them (His hand is upon them).
It also should remind us of God with us (Immanuel), which is also stated at the very end of Ezekiel: "The LORD Is There" (48:35). This is a great comfort to God's people, and a terror to God's enemies.
