Notes
(See Saturday for authors.)
We need endurance, which means not giving up when life is hard. The Bible says this in Hebrews 10:36.
Paul explains that endurance grows when we go through tough times. It's not just "hard things make you stronger." It's that God uses hard things to help us grow up, become mature, and learn to trust Him.
James says endurance helps us become complete. But both Paul and James say endurance starts with trials-the hard things we face. We might wish we could get endurance without suffering, but God uses those hard moments to help us grow. As Keddie says, James is saying that as an act of faith we must put these trials in the credit column.
So how do we get endurance?
- We get endurance through suffering.
- We also get endurance from God and His Word (Romans 15:4-5).
- Every good gift comes from God (James 1:17), and He gives us everything we need to live for Him (2 Peter 1:3).
- Endurance is one of those good gifts.
So be confident: God will give you endurance. Even when life is hard, remember that God has helped you before and He will keep helping you. With God's help, endure.
