Notes
(See Saturday for authors.)
We believe that Jesus loves His church. If Jesus loves his church, what does he do for her when she has trouble? 3 John shows us a church with big problems. There is a man in the church, Diotrephes, who is ignoring John and other elders. What is worse, he has a position of leadership and is putting other believers out of the church. When John writes this letter, Jesus is in heaven, so how is he going to help this troubled church?
John tells Gaius in two places that he intends to come visit the church himself. When he comes, John intends to encourage Gaius and put a stop to the trouble Diotrephes is making. One important way that Jesus shows His love for us is by connecting our churches to other churches to help when there is trouble.
